Tool #11

I really enjoy the Show Me app on the i-pad beccause it is quick and simple and I can quickly assess if a student has an understanding of a "concept". I guess I have transformed my thinking by realizing that there is so much more to education than lecturing, practicing, assessing. There were unexpected outcomes from this project. One is that it was more difficult than I thought it would be and that there is a ton of cool technology out there that students can greatly benefit from.

Tool #7

I would like for my students to do a collaborative project between class periods invloving perimeter. I would assign each student a partner from another class period. The objective would be for the students to be able to calculate perimeters for regular and non-regular polygons.I would provide a set of templates of each type of polygon for the students but they would have to measure each side and record their results. They could use google docs to do this and their partner could "see" the results and compare their own findings. I would also ask for a written description of how they calculated their results, and where they found any formulas used.

Tool # 9

1.You need to tie technology to the objective so that you get the desired outcome you are trying to achieve.

2.Students need to be held accountable for stations so that they can meet the objective

3.I like the Khan Academy site. I can use Khan to have the same effect as stations without the students actually moving from place to place. You can tell them to work on very specific topics and the program tracks how much time they spend in each area, how many questions they attempt, and how many they get correct.

4. 2 apps that I found are "show me" and "Brain-Pop". With "show me" you could have the student demonstrate a new concept and with Brain-pop they could watch a video then take an on-line quiz. To show accountability they would have to print out or email me the quiz results and on "show me" they just let me watch their creation.

Tool #10

1. 3 things I would want to make sure that students understand about being good digital citizens are, a. That there is an etiquette to be followed at all times, b. That they need to do things in a safe manner at all times, c. That they are responsible for their actions online and once they post somethhing it is there forever.

2. I plan to use Brain Pop as an instructional tool.

3. I will "teach" the concept of digital citizenship with the students by having them watch some of the Brain Pop videos on this topic.

4. I would share the idea of digital citizenship with parents by sending them an email with links for them to check out the same videos that I was requiring their students to watch.

Tool #8

1. I learned how to make videos with the Dell 2120 netbook computers and I can have the students use this program to create and present a lesson to the rest of their class or even to another class. I also have ipads for the students to use. There is an App called "Show Me" on the ipads. With this App I can have the students make a short video to demonstrate mastery of a concept that they have learned.

2. As far as managing the devices, I am fortunate to have enough computers in my room for every student to have access to one of the devices at all times. I have created a spreadsheet to keep track of which student is using which device. This helped during the initial log in process when it was taking 4-6 min for a student to get logged onto the netbooks.

Tool #6


I could use Wallwisher to have kids describe how they would perform a certain process.

Blogger.com is another way i can have students communicate with me. It is very easy to use and I think it is great for the student who is shy and does not like to talk in front of others. You can ask the students to perform specific questions or explain a process or even ask for help without fear of other students making fun of them.

Glogster utilizes technology so students can interact and discuss the lesson of the day while animoto will allow the students to describe how to solve a math problem via a video.
